What happens at CRB?
HandsOn: Biobanks, Uppsala 20-21 September 2012
Biobanking has become hot, and rather quickly. The technology, the claims and the investments are increasing, but what is the value we are chasing? The route from a human biological sample and registry data to real benefit for patients and public health is complex. Many activities make up this route: funding, ethical review, sample and data collection, storage, bioanalysis and bioinformatics. Each is intended to add value, but how do we make sure we see and increase the benefits?
Welcome to an interactive conference on biobanks! Meet biobank researchers and industry, listen to interesting talks and participate in idea labs and workshops. Topics range from the latest technology through ethical challenges and legislation to outcome in clinical praxis and drug development.
Save the date: 20-21 September 2012. Read more >
Arranged by: BBMRI.se in collaboration with BBMIR.fi and Biobank Norway
Want to discuss ethics?
We run an ethics blog in English and another in Swedish. The bulk of the blog content deals with the research that is conducted at CRB.
Since we are starting and haven't had time to cover everything, our focus is on biobanks and health care. But more with come. If you are interested in ape language, neurophilosophy, doping and how we should handle human remains, you will not be disappointed!
Have a look, a read and a bit of dialogue with us at Etikbloggen and the Ethics Blog!
Open higher seminars
The Centre invites you to attend our forthnightly open higher seminar series on research ethics and bioethics.
Previous conferences and symposia
The Centre for Research Ethics and Bioethics hosted the annual symposia series "Biomedicine, Ethics and Society" that ran for eleven years. We have decided to continue arranging conferences, but bigger ones and together with others:
- 2010: Is Medical Ethics Really in the Best Interest of the Patient? (with CESAGEN at the universities in Lancaster and Cardiff)
- 2011: Nordic Biboank Research: Obstacles and opportunities (with the Nordic Committee on Bioethics and BBMRI.se)
We are currently planning a biobank fair together with BBMRI.se in September 2012. Let us know at crb@crb.uu.se if you want information.
