Pandemic – decision-making, communication & vaccination: See you at Smer’s ethics day 2020!

Ethical dilemmas are part of preparing for pandemics, and part of fighting contagion. The Swedish National Council on Medical Ethic’s (Smer) Ethics Day 2020 will consist of three webinars, all focusing on pandemics. Our Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist will participate in a panel discussion on vaccines against Covid-19.

“The challenge we are all facing is how to carefully navigate decision-making and communication about benefits and risks of new vaccines. Some people are skeptics for unscienfitic reasons, and others have legitimate concerns based on what happened during the mass vaccination against swine flu in 2009," says Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist, Associate Professor in Practical Philosophy at Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics.

According to Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist, it is not only about the science, but also about ethical values, like solidarity and taking responsibility. And not just for the individuals, but for government and experts too.
